CJYFC CLUB CREST

The Club Crest was designed by Diane Warren in 1995 and has been featured on the CJYFC playing kits ever since. The Centurion’s head with helmet and splendid red plume represents Caerleon’s historic Roman connection whilst the white circle represents both a football and the Roman Amphitheatre near the pitches at Broadway, Caerleon.

CJYFC PLAYING KIT COLOURS

Prior to 1995 the Caerleon Junior teams played in a variety of colours, mostly blue. In 1995 the club standardised kit colours for all junior teams and players looked very smart in brand new white shirts, blue shorts and red socks. However, there were complaints from the mums that they couldn’t get the shirts clean, complaints from the boys that the shirts were dyed pink and complaints from some of the dads that it looked like an England kit. Hence the next bulk kit replacement in 1999 was all blue shirts, shorts and socks, even though Chelsea weren’t so good at the time !. In 2002 CJYFC recognised the relationship with Caerleon AFCs senior teams and adopted the Green & White colours.

CAERLEON MINI-FOOTBALL TOURNAMENTS 1997 & 1998

By 1996 CJYFC had amassed a significant debt and were in imminent danger of folding. The 1996-97 season saw a rescue plan implemented by the committee culminating in a large scale mini-football tournament in summer 1997 at Caerleon Comprehensive School. This was a massive undertaking by the mini-soccer and 11-a-side Team Managers with teams from around Gwent represented. Thanks to prudent stewardship by the Treasurer Mrs Jane Burrows, the success of the 1997 Tournament and a smaller tournament in 1998 organised by Mrs Barbara Vaughan and Mrs Maria Davies, the Club debt was turned into a healthy positive balance at the bank.

THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

CJYFC celebrated it’s 10th year in July 1998 with a prestigious event held at the STC Club, Corporation Road, Newport. Entertainment at the excellent venue was provided by Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band, a well known and respected local band in the style of the Commitments. The large audience of players mums and dads (and quite a few friends) demonstrated their dancing ‘skills’ until the early hours. Certainly a night of celebration to remember.
