UNDER 10S TOURNAMENT AT WOOLACOMBE BAY - DEVON . MAY 26TH - 29TH 2006 Friday May 26th a group of 9 children, made up from the 05/06 Under 10s Celts, Gladiators & Centurions Teams, all headed off from Sunny Wales towards the Devon Coast - with Parents & siblings in tow!!! Getting nearer to Devon we began to wonder if we were up in the clouds as we could hardly see in front of us- the mist & rain was so bad! BUT! This did not deter us! We all had a great evening together at the Woolacombe Bay Caravan Park, where all teams competing in the tournament were also staying. This was a chance for us to suss our opposition! The kids had plenty of space to run around & the adults - plenty to talk about!!!! (needless to say - a few beverages were downed too!!). Saturday Morning - ALL up early & off to the tournament. Our 1st game was to start at 9am! We all made it on time - even 1 person ( who shall remain nameless!) who was rather worse for wear on Friday night! Well done ....! Weather was even worse than Friday - we had drizzling rain & low mist - & we had 4 games to play that day - 9am, 10.20am, 11.20am & 1pm. All of the players kept their spirits up, playing brilliantly and holding it together. Slipping & sliding all over the pitch, we won our 1st 2 games! By our 3rd game we were now rather wet & the rain decided it wanted to test us some more-as it started to pour down!!! This game we lost, despite a great effort from the boys & lots of shouting & cheering from their groupies! Our last game was the toughest of the tournament. Going on cold & wet, we were up against a team that has not been beaten in their area ( W. Midlands) for 3 or 4 years! Our lads put up a really strong fight, both attacking & certainly defending superbly. We lost 2-0, which was a good result considering some teams had lost 11-0 to this team. Proud of ourselves & our lads, we all went back to camp & celebrated!!! The cameraderie was great amongst both adults & children! Hobbzys' put on an outstanding B-B-Q, which we all feasted on! Sunday - FINAL DAY! Again, 1st game - 9am. Only 3 games to play today. Beautiful Sunny day. We went on to win all 3 games! All in all, we won 5 out of 7 games throughout the tournament,& ended up only 1 point away from being in the final. The final was played by the 2 teams we had lost against, & the team that have not lost a game, were the cup winners. Presentation night was really special & all players were presented with a trophy by Paul Walsh. In true celebratory style we all went on to have a great night & the Dads even attempted to beat thier lads at a game of cricket!!! They all looked kn......d at the end!!!!! Huge Thanks and Congratulations for their great play, teamwork & determination must go to the Team : Adam Eastman, Jordan Gin, Matthew Hobbs, Patrick Knight, Christopher Lewis Goad, Kyle Raubenheimer, Nathan Short, Jamie Sullivan, Ryan Vickery. WELL DONE LADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kyle Raubenheimer was awarded 'Player of the Tournament' for his goal keeping in 3.5 games on Saturday in that great British rain, slipping n sliding, but still managing to catch the ball or get it away, and also for his overall performance throughout the tournament. Well Done Kyle!!! Patrick Knight has a new nickname owing to his massive defensive headers & almost knocking himself out on 1 or 2 occasions - he is now' The Head' ! Thanks to all the players & their families for making this such an enjoyable Tournament - watch out for next years details!!!!!!!!!!
