Caerleon Under 12’s 6 – 2 Newport Corries

Sunday 12th February 2006

Newport Corries travelled to Caerleon to play on pitch 1, which must have held a Monster truck exhibition beforehand it was so bad.

The game started dramatically, with Tom Mahoney scoring from the edge of the box after 2 minutes, and Corries responding with an equaliser on 4 minutes. Caerleon displayed some fabulous football at times, Josh Sullivan played exceptionally well as did Matt Aylwin.

At the back Luke’s pace was invaluable, and Wazza tracked back to help out. James played brilliantly at the back throughout, overlapping at times.

After 10 minutes Tom M broke through the Corries defence brilliantly, notching his second goal, with a right foot shot from the edge of the box.

On 20 minutes George scored with a left shot, from a through ball into the box. Michael followed up with a 4th Caerleon goal on 25 minutes. Half time was 4-1 to Caerleon.

In the second half Caerleon continued to press, Michael scoring his second on 40 minutes. He later struck a stunning shot on the turn, which smashed against the bar.

Corries still battled and were rewarded on 47 minutes with their 2nd goal.

Oli came on as sub second half, as did Conor. Oli made several runs down the right, his determination being rewarded with a goal after 61 minutes.

Again second half, Caerleon played some excellent football at times. All the players should be extremely pleased with their performance.

Eveswell 'B' 2 – 2 Caerleon Under 12’s Match Report

Sunday 5th February 2006

The Carleon team met Eveswell ‘B’, on a great day for football at Coronation Park. The Caerleon team were depleted with only a bare eleven players available.

The first half produced some excellent action, with Cookie producing some telling saves in goal. At the back Jimbob Hockey was awesome, while Oli gave his usual graceful display.

Both sides created opportunities and Eveswell took the lead, with an excellent individual goal, on 25 minutes. Gina G equalised 4 minutes later with a fabulous run from halfway. He also confused all the supporters, when the ball went straight through the net (buy some pegs Eveswell!!)

Spooner Walmsley played up front and shot close on a couple of occasions. Rob ‘where’s my gloves’ Hoar also came close with an excellent volley.

In the middle Wazza worked tirelessly thwarting a number of attacks. Sniffer Graydon showed tremendous determination, and plenty of skill linking up play throughout the game. ‘Laces’ Coles worked his boots off in defence throughout the game. Half time was 1-1.

In the second half, Eveswell took the lead on 55 minutes. Roastie switched out wide making some fabulous runs down the right, knocking in dangerous crosses. Gina came so close on a couple of occasions but shot just wide.

Caerleon were denied a penalty and we wondered if it would be Caerleon’s day. Finally on 65 minutes Gina turned inside the box, and finished with a cracking left foot shot. The final score 2-2.

Duffryn Under 12’s 0 – 4 Caerleon Under 12’s Match Report

Sunday 15th January 2006

Caerleon visited Tredegar Park, to play Duffryn on a dreadful pitch.

Caerleon were into their stride early, and with the ball bobbling around the penalty area, after just 2 minutes, Michael Tutton scored from short range.

Tom Dusdon knocked the ball around well, with some superb passing for the front boys. The pace of Conor Walmsley and George Thompson breached the Duffryn defence on many occasions. Only through misfortune did a number of opportunities go just wide.

In midfield Wazza was his consistent self, helping out the defence from his midfield role. Duffryn played well keeping Robert Hoar busy in goal. The defence of James, Owen and Oli had their work cut out at times, but coped extremely well. The half-time score was 1-0 to Caerleon.

In the second half, Tom Mahoney burst down the right. A looping shot over the keeper, was arguably over the line, before Michael belted it in on 40 minutes. The dubious goals committee have since met, and after due consideration, awarded the goal to Roastie (Tom) as it was already going in!!

Matt Aylwin came on in midfield, with Conor moving back into defence, and knocked the ball around very well.

After 44 minutes, George’s persistence paid off, with another looping shot from just inside the penalty area. The score now 3-0. Duffryn never gave up, but George notched his second on 65 minutes making it 4-0. From a ball chipped into the box, he swept home with his left foot, into the bottom left corner.

Although the game was scrappy at times, partly due to the conditions, both Caerleon and Duffryn provided an entertaining match for the fans!!!

Caerleon Under 12’s 5 –3 Pill Harriers Match Report

Sunday 8th January 2006

On a cold, wet Sunday Caerleon welcomed Pill, for what was expected to be a close fixture.

Caerleon as usual started quickly, with Tom Dusdon making some great passes, turning the Pill defence for Jack Pewtner up front. Michael Tutton also started up front, holding the ball up well, and also made some telling passes keeping Pill on their toes.

After 16 minutes, Jack latched onto a through pass, finishing calmly for the first goal. Caerleon continued to close Pill down, vital against a strong Pill side, with Tom Warren anchoring the midfield. Luke Slater’s movement was quality, making intelligent runs for his team mates. Tom Mahoney pressed forward creating chances when posible. Sam Graydon impressed, both with his defending and carrying the ball out of defence.

The pressure eventually told, with Michael nipping in between defender and keeper, making it 2-0 after 19 minutes. Just one minute later Jack scored his second. Pill replied with a goal on 37 minutes. Half-time arrived, with Caerleon deserving their 3-1 lead.

In the second half, Caerleon defended for long spells, as Pill raised their game considerably. James Hockey, Oliver Eastman and Owen Jones remained strong under the pressure. Caerleon looked threatening on the break and took their opportunities well. Michael picked up his second goal on 45 minutes, and Jack his hat-trick 3 minutes later. The score now was 5-1. Alex Coles provided some fresh legs, and was solid in midfield.

Pill responded with two stunning strikes, and Tom Mahoney was very unfortunate, hitting the crossbar with a fabulous 25 yard shot.

The game ended with a 5-3 Caerleon victory, with both teams having contributed to an enthralling game, in difficult conditions.

Caerleon Under 12’s vs Crindau Corries Match Report

Sunday 30th October 2005

Caerleon under 12’s travelled to Shaftsbury Park to face Crindau. The team was at full strength and shaped up with a 3-5-2 formation.

The start to the game was very unexpected, Jack Pewtner scoring in under 30 seconds with the first attack!!

Soon afterwards it was 2-0, Tom Mahoney and Tom Dudson displaying some very clever passing through the channels. Mike Tutton battled hard in the middle and George Thomspson was a constant threat up front with his pace.

Crindau worked hard keeping Josh H-S busy in goal, and Caerleon conceded an unfortunate own goal, then a second quick goal, bringing the scores level. James Hockey made one stunning tackle saving a certain goal.

Luke Slater showed some great trickery, while Tom Warren covered every blade of grass linking up the play.

In the second half Caerleon pressed, the back three Oliver Eastman, Owen Jones and James were solid and couldn’t be broken down. Matt Aylwin and Conor Walmsley were introduced, Conor weaving his magic down the left and Matt making some solid tackles in the middle.

Caeleon proved too strong second half, despite resolute defending by Crindau. The game ended with Jack scoring a double hat-trick and George 2 excellent goals.
