UNDY TOURNAMENT

The Under 7's took 18 players to Undy to take part in their 2007 Football Festival on 10 th June. In very hot conditions the players put in super human efforts in 10 games against sides from Llanyrafon, Griffithstown A and B, Undy A and B, Civil Service, Cromwell, Penygarn, Pengam and Henllys winning three games, drawing three and losing four. They scored six goals and conceded six. The goal scorers were George King, Jude Dinning, Brett Petersen, Carys Waters, Josh Glinwood and Julian Ballett. Oliver Evans also made several outstanding saves in goals. Our thanks go to Undy for their efforts in putting on a very well organised tournament.

ROGERSTONE TOURNAMENT

The Under 7's entered 2 teams in the Rogerstone 2007 Football Festival on 16 th June.

Despite a few heavy downpours it was a very enjoyable day with both teams producing creditable performances. They played 12 games between them against sides from Rogerstone A, B and C, Llanyrafon, Fleur de lys, Graig, Pontymister, Corinthians, Marshfield A and B and Machen. They scored 13 goals and conceded 5 as they won 5 games, drew 5 and lost 2. The goal scorers were Josh Glinwood (2), Julian Ballett, Ieuan Phillips, Brett Petersen (2), Elliot McDade, Jude Dinning (2),

Kieran Grace (2), George King and Ethan Young. All the players received their trophy rewarding their efforts on a long day for them. As with all the tournaments we have attended the event was extremely well run and we thank Rogerstone for their efforts.

GARDEN CITY TOURNAMENT

19 players represented the under 7's Centurions and Gladiators in the Garden City football festival on 20 th May. The players played in very warm weather and on pitches that were almost twice the size they normally use. With scouts from Cardiff City and Bristol Rovers walking around the players ran themselves into the ground. They played 8 games against Garden City A and B, Llanyrafon, Griffithstown, Caerwent, Abergavenny, Sudbrook and Penyfai (Bridgend) winning two games, drawing five with only one defeat. They scored six goals and conceded three. The goal scorers were George Webb, Aaron Berrow, Brett Petersen, Luke White, Josh Glinwood and Scott Winter. However all the players contributed to a very enjoyable day. Our thanks go to Garden City for their efforts in putting on a very well organised tournament. We have a rest from tournaments for the next 2 weeks due to the bank holiday and the presentation. We then go to Undy on 10 th June.

Fun day / Penalty competition

The penalty competition is on May 19 th at Cold Bath Road (Caerleon AFC). Meet at 12.00 with your shooting boots.

There is no training on 19 th May.

Player of the Season / Tournament availability

UNDER 7

SEASON REVIEW 2006/2007

The under 7's completed their first year of fixtures on 29 th April. The squad has grown through the season to 28 players. This has led to the introduction of a third side playing friendlies as well as the two teams entered in the Newport and District.

The players have shown tremendous enthusiasm throughout the year as shown by the numbers turning up for training. All bar 3 of the squad have attended at least 70% of training sessions. These numbers continued despite the atrocious weather endured between November and February when the majority of games were cancelled.

This commitment has led to the players' performance improving significantly over the season. It has been a joy for the coaches to see the players doing things in matches that have been practised in training. It has also given the coaches an immense problem in choosing the winners for the end of season awards when so many players deserve the award. To help us we have asked the players to vote as well as the coaching staff for the player of the season. The coaches will decide the most improved player. These will be announced at the end of season presentation on June 2 nd .

The three teams have played 44 matches this season and scored 139 goals. The top scorer for the season was Jude Dinning with 18 closely followed by Kieran Grace with 17. All the players have contributed to a very successful first season for the squad. Statistics for the season are shown below.

We now go into the tournament season and hope to enter sides in the tournaments at Corinthians on May 13th, Garden City on May 20th, Undy on June 10th, Rogerstone on June 16 th and finally Gaer on June 30th. It is then time for a well- deserved rest before we restart training on August 18 th .

The squad also enjoyed a trip to Villa Park to watch Villa play Portsmouth. Although we did not see any goals we were there when David James set his record for the most clean sheets in the Premiership.

It is hoped that all the players will return next season together with a few additions to give us sufficient numbers for 3 sides.

End of Season Tour 2007

21 st April Aston Villa V Portsmouth. 3pm kick off
Rearanged to 22nd April 4pm k.o

Well it didnt quite go as well as originally planned. Sky and co put the first spanner in the works moving the game from the saturday to the sunday causing a few of the originals members to drop out due to other commitments.
When contacted the comment was " As a good will gesture I can send you a variety of postcard photographs of a variety of presenters on Sky Sport and should you wish to advise me of your contact address I will arrange this for you. " If any one really feels the urge let me know and i give them your address. ;-)

This caused us to loose the originally planned fixtures and i'd like to say thank you to Matthew Leek and Stephen Tumulty from chelmsley town the under 7's & 10's managers who had put a lot of work into arranging what was to be a great day. maybe later we can meet up!

A bout of sickness and temperatures wittled down the numers by a few more on the weekend of the game but the rest of us braved the journey (and the Children). To add to the excitement the coach company decided to send us coaches with out of action toilets and no functional dvd players leaving the children to make thier own amusement. Thankfully there were a few large plastic bottles floating around.

On arrival and taking our seats we found us sat next Malpas under sevens (small world) and the Aston Villa presenters picked a couple of both our boys and girls out due to the amount of noise they were making and took them down onrto the pitch and interviewed them on the big screen. The five pound an autograph the kids they were asking after was a bit steep though .

We should at this point say a big thankyou to Tracey Colley from Aston Villa the group booking co-ordinator for the hard work she put in and the stewards in our area of the ground for exercising such control faced with such a formidable opposition. (and that was just the under 7's).

The under 7s proved themselves more than capable of taking part and enjoying the tour and the ony advice i can give for next year is to run faster for the front of the bus so your stuck up the back with the rable. Maybe consider booking the next day off work as well just to recover!

Overall it was a good trip and every one seamed to enjoy themselves and there were no complaints. That might be as all were told the submit all complaints in writting with their application form to run next years tour attatched. ;-)
